none of us
understood
and none of us
understands
and probably
there is
no hope
that anyone
ever will
once one does
this understandable
will change
will cheat
the understander
in misunderstanding
miss the siren’s cliffs, wise men
you will oh so miss them
this distance
is needed
to understand
the desire
for the marvellous
is beyond
this beyond
was
the only place

The End of Alphabet,

text: Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov

video: Alex Antipin

Series of ABCs written by Moscow poet, artist, and performer Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov from 1980 – to 2007. Prigov wrote 120 such works, mostly using his typewriter. To date some 60 are available on this website, but also in print. “Конец всего”, the last line of the last text of the ABC series, means “the end of everything”. The End of ABC was published in 2007, 2007 was the year of Prigov’s death. It makes The End of ABC one of his last texts. Sontag wrote that death is opposite of everything.

Vitebsky Station, St Petersburg
MANIFETSA10

Railway station is a place that arranges a special relationship with time and space: they are both measured in stations. Each videopoem of the Speaking Clock counts such time stations:
from St.Petersburg to Rome (SPQR),
from Oslo to Bergen (Sorrel, Sorrel),
from Helsinki to Porvoo and from New York to Boston (To Mars),
from London to Bristol (Epigraphic Clock) is a literary clock by John Cayley, that contains 365 words. Six phrases of the lower line show the literary year, month, day, hour and minute, flasing blue phrase registers seconds.

“It’s Getting Better” is a prototype of a poetry cube sonic sculpture. Since sonic sculpture is seen as a sonic ecology harmonizing artefact, the poem suggests primarily aesthetical means of organizing space, as opposed to consumerist accumulation of desired objects.

Mayfly (2014), a palindrome poem

text: Natalia Fedorova
video: Alex Antipin

march flew, april flies, may will fly
as long as a pleasure’s lying
covers with flowers – then leaves
against the wall of stone
against the fence of wood
slim in her pink ephemera
today serves feast for sight
petals brown and dry
tomorrow will rustle
live as long as a mayfly

april flies, march will fly

as long as a pleasure’s lying
covers with flowers – then leaves
against the wall of stone
against the fence of wood
slim in her pink ephemera
today serves feast for sight
petals brown and dry
tomorrow will rustle
live as long as a mayfly

Memory (2012), a poem

text: Natalia Fedorova
video and sound: Taras Mashtalir

to map my memory
i program neurally
i run in and out
of memory
i let it pick its subject
from this night’s dark
grass means theatre
ice-cream means april
you scream that we scream
street lamp will mean nothing
if you are blind
imperfectly perfect
me amore
stay star
april grows grass
in praise of bad clock
i connect present and past
watching faces
i run with my hands
unclenched
no memory is an island
no man can zap
my memory
or he’ll have to
delete this world

Light Duty (2012), a poem

text: Natalia Fedorova
sound: Taras Mashtalir

the light is on duty
when everyone else is
fast asleep
from dozing flats
it climbs the ladders
of cristmasy trees
up to the top of
prudential beacon
to let the planes know
that the light is on duty
when everyone else
is fast asleep
